Farewell to the UK

After packing many boxes, receiving many hugs and shedding many tears, we are now packed and ready to start our new life in Cambodia. Over the past 4 weeks we have said goodbye to our house, furniture, car, friends and family, and are prepared to board our flight tomorrow together armed with a backpack, two suitcases, a guitar and (bizarrely) a Vileda mop.

Our final journey in our Ford Focus - taking our boxes for shipping

Many thanks to everyone who has invited us for meals, written us encouraging cards or e:mails, sent us friendly text messages and remembered us in their prayers – we are very appreciative of all of your love, care and support. When you are about to move to the other side of the world you become much more aware of the things and people that you take for granted and how much you will miss them.

As I considered what we are doing I felt God remind me of Jesus’ words in the New Testament in John 15: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” It feels at the moment like we are being seriously “pruned”  – leaving behind so much that is dear and familiar to us, including much where it feels like we have been fruitful. Thank God for His expert “gardening skills” and how safe we are in His hands!

I pray that our time in Cambodia would see us being “even more fruitful” as we remain in Him.

Much more blogging action to follow. The journey starts here….

  1. Is sad to see your car all packed up! Can’t quite work out where you’re up to along the journey at the moment – but I hope you’re laughing and joking still :o) (although I have glimpsed Simon’s journey ‘face’ so maybe just Becci laughing for now-hehe) We love you guys and can’t wait to hear you’ve arrived safely and how hot it is there. Lots of love, Harrisons xxx

  2. According to the flight-tracker you’re currently somewhere over Kazakstahn as I write… hope it’s nice smooth air for you.
Look on the bright side – at least this time you haven’t got Roch and Andrew pestering you for the whole flight!
Safe journey and all of the blessings that can possibly be heaped on you,
    Gx

  5. Hi. Thinking and praying for you both as you are going through your few hours, few days, few weeks and few months. If we can help you with anything else please email or call us. You guys are lovely and great! Lots and lots of love from the smithies

  6. We are all praying for you – Sammy – “Ta Jesus, Browns in Cambodia – they can’t eat or drink, they sick. Amen”

I finished the prayer by actually asking Jesus to heal you both, you’ll be happy to know! May He bring you strength and comfort right now – peace in your house and your minds and your hearts – and some joy in the morning, too!!!

    Love you lots

  7. Hi Both, I will be praying for you guys each day for now, I feel that’s right. What an exciting journey your on. Sorry I made little effort to show you any love before you left, I’m not good on goodbyes and George and Gill of Teetime in Paris fame will confirm that. Looking forward to hearing from you shortly once you have settled in. I really like Eph 3 vs 14 to 21 for you both right now. Much love, Andy Garsed
